The CrossFit Taurus symbol is that of the bull. It represents strength and unstoppable power mixed with an indomitable spirit. The bull stems from the Waikato “mooloos” and we also maintain the red, yellow and black to endorse our passion for the Waikato. LUKE WATERHOUSE (TRAINER)
Luke has a passion to see people reach their full potential and achieve their goals both inside and outside of the gym. He brings experience from years of training and teaching people of different cultures and backgrounds.
Luke previously played rugby and touch rugby overseas, and has more recently secretly enjoyed playing the odd game of competitive table tennis. Graduating with an Engineering degree provided Luke with opportunities to work off the coast of Australia.
Luke claims that CrossFit ‘found him’ in 2012 and from that moment he was hooked. He believes that CrossFit is not just a six-month training camp, but it is a life choice for personal health and nutrition. Luke spent five months at a CrossFit gym in Canada, in 2014 and this continued to grow his love for the impact that CrossFit is having on the world.
His love for people has taken him all around the world exposing him to the different methods of fitness in several countries. He has run boot camps and cross-training classes abroad, and qualified on both Level one and two CrossFit Trainer courses. This has armed him with different training methods that he now brings to CrossFit Taurus.

MICHAEL GILLUM (TRAINER)
In December of 2010 Michael received a Queens Commission, and was indoctrinated into the Royal New Zealand Army Logistics Regiment (RNZALR) as a Second Lieutenant. He now returns to the army on a part-time basis when possible after stepping down from full-time work in 2013.
In January 2011 Michael discovered CrossFit. He became extremely passionate and began to compete competitively in July 2011. In 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017 he qualified to compete at the regional competition in Sydney, Australia.
Michael is qualified as - Level One and Level Two CrossFit Trainer, CrossFit Strongman, Level Two Sports Power Coach, CrossFit Kids, and Comprehensive First Aid, as well as possessing a Diploma in Accounting. These courses have given Michael a valuable base of knowledge and insight into coaching and training techniques. Michael is planning to complete the Sports Power coach Lvl 3 in 2018.
LEE GILLUM (TRAINER)
Lee first started CrossFit in 2012 and he hasn’t stopped since. Lee joined CrossFit Taurus from the beginning moving to Hamilton from Auckland to establish the gym. While working full time at Ideal Electrical he started taking classes as an intern.
Lee has since passed his Level One CrossFit Trainers certificate and been a Trainer at CrossFit Taurus since 2013. Lee wanted to further his skills , knowledge base and passion not only as a trainer but as an athlete, as so went on to complete his level 2 CrossFit Coach's Certificate in 2014.
Lee is an extremely keen and caring trainer who is more than happy to go out of his way to ensure members progress in their fitness careers.
VICKI LAHANA (TRAINER / GENERAL MANAGER)
Vicki comes from a competitive sporting background. Involved in all sports Vicki chose soccer. Playing at all representative levels from the age of 14 she went on to represent at senior level including the NZ Women’s team in 1994-95. She then continued playing at the Metropolitan State College of Denver, Colorado, USA on a double sports scholarship (tennis and soccer) where she graduated with a B.A in Human Performance Sport and Leisure minoring in Business Management. Upon returning to NZ in 2001 Vicki began a very successful Personal Training Business at Les Mills Takapuna, Auckland from 2001 to 2011.
With over 15 years of experience in the fitness industry, Vicki is now married with 2 children aged 5 and 7 years old. She discovered CrossFit in April 2014 and has found it to be a great way to compete with anyone within a stable environment as well as an opportunity to learn new skills and create great friendships with like-minded people. She completed CrossFit level 1 Certification April 2015. Vicki believes in creating your own destiny. Hard work within a fun environment and surrounding yourself with like-minded people will help you lead a more fulfilling, active, healthy life no matter how young, old, unfit or fit you are.

LOGAN MARTIN (TRAINER)
Logan began training at CrossFit Taurus towards the end of 2014, to increase his strength for rowing. He stopped rowing and pursued full time CrossFit training, as he found that he was getting more enjoyment as well as more value through this style of training.
Logan began his internship at CrossFit Taurus in January 2016 and interned for a full 13 months before gaining his CrossFit Level 1 Trainers Certificate in January 2017, then becoming a trainer in February 2017.
This year, after finishing 42nd in the CrossFit Open Teens Division, Logan made it into the second qualifier for his division. He competed at a top level, finishing at 35th in the world. Logan is planning to complete a Certificate in Fitness Industry Training in 2018, as well as his CrossFit Level 2 Trainers Certificate in June 2017.
JAYDEN DAVY (TRAINER)
Jayden comes from a background of many competitive sports. He grew up trying a multitude of things until eventually BMX racing stuck. Jayden spent the following 17 years racing BMX at the regional, national and international level, achieving a national title in 2013. Jayden was ready for a change.
In 2015 Jayden found CrossFit. Since then he has competed in a range of CrossFit events around the country with his sights set on the pacific regional in the future.
In Jayden’s spare time between training and competing he recently completed a degree in Sport and Leisure Studies (between 2012-2016) and a postgraduate diploma in primary teaching (2016-2017). This has helped him gain confidence and knowledge of the health and fitness industry as well as giving him the ability to manage a group of diverse people and age ranges.
In January 2017 Jayden gained his CrossFit level 1 certificate and has since became a trainer at CrossFit Taurus.
ALYSSA GILLUM (TRAINER)
Alyssa graduated from a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise in 2010 and in 2011, she went on to complete the Graduate Diploma of Teaching. During her five years of study, Alyssa gained work experience as a swimming coach and an aqua aerobics instructor. She played netball for a local club and was a keen runner growing up, competing in national championships for cross-country and athletics.
In 2010, Alyssa completed her first Marathon, The Great Wall Marathon in Beijing, China. She surprised herself with her overall performance against the world’s best. Since then, she has completed an ultramarathon, multiple marathons, mountain and trail running events, multiple half marathons, triathlons and many 10km and 5km running events throughout New Zealand.
Alyssa’s most valuable advice when running is ‘to feel and enjoy the oxygen in your muscles with each breathe’. Alyssa is currently a full-time teacher in our local community and enjoys training others in the area of endurance, including endurance class, individualised training programmes and nutrition advice. She uses CrossFit to build her strength, speed and stamina for running. She is currently working towards achieving a half marathon time of under 1 hour 30 minutes and is also training to compete in The Tarawera Marathon 50km event on the 11th November, 2017.
